Rosy Verdile

I live as a lay resident of the Monastery of Christ in the Desert, NM, where my service to the community includes instruction of the monks in monastic crafts. Since simple hand work is valued and favored in monastic life, I taught myself and the brothers to hand sew leather.

I have never changed from this truly intimate, slow and meticulous process. A hand punched, hand sewn leather piece has a unique look not found in machine sewn items.

Each leather item I make is an original design and each piece one of a kind.

I use only 100% genuine leather and sew with beeswax covered linen threads.
